Every busy momma wants to cut the time spent on performing household chores in order to have more opportunity to work on passion projects such as gardening, crafting, blogging and even vlogging.  Our this post is a full home cleaning guide for busy mommies.

Among all the household chores, cleaning undeniably takes the longest to complete. According to home cleaning experts, it takes roughly 60 minutes to clean 1000 square metres.

If you’re struggling to budget your time, it’s best that you check out our complete cleaning guide for busy moms. It has everything you need in order for you to have more time for the things that you love to do.

Decluttering ❨15 minutes)

It’s absolutely hard to clean a cluttered room. If you’re not too careful, you might end up slipping or falling because of the toys and clothes scattered on the floor.

It would take roughly 15 minutes to completely declutter a small house. If you want to work systematically, we recommend having four containers or boxes with you. Use these to temporarily store items that you need to give away, store, replace, and discard.

Every day, try filling each box with items. For example, you may need to throw away that box of scratch paper you’ve been keeping under the bed for so long or your kids’ worn-out toys.

After getting rid of unwanted items, you can allocate a few more minutes to put everything back in their proper place.

Have a mountain of junk to go through? Check out our foolproof decluttering tips below:

  • Lack the motivation needed to complete the task? Experts suggest walking around the house and imagining how each room would look sans junk and clutter.
  • Randomly pick five misplaced things in the house and replace them in their original location.
  • Choose one spot in the house and make sure that it’s totally decluttered. Keep that area spic and span for the entire week to create a contrast in the house.
  • List 10 specific things you need to do each week. See to it that you complete each task.
  • Got kids in the house? Teach them how to keep the house free from clutter by reminding them to put away their toys and things after use. Let them appreciate how nice it is to live in a neat and orderly residence.

Super fast bedroom cleaning ❨15 minutes)

Bedrooms are supposed to be a place of relaxation. However, most of the time, it’s one of the most neglected parts of a house of busy mommas. Sometimes, you just have to deal with a long list of things such as cooking breakfast and looking after the kids, you forget to make the bed and put freshly laundered clothes in the dresser.

We say it’s time to give your bedroom a bit more TLC! Rest assured you won’t need to spend more than 15 minutes to smoothen the beddings, remove the trash, place the clothes in the right place and tidy up the entire room as long as you start following a more disciplined and systematic cleaning habit.

To minimise the time needed to fix the bed every single day, you tuck the linens securely. Lift up the mattress and secure the corners of the linens using a safety pin. If the linen you use doesn’t come with an adjustable band, try tying a knot in every corner to prevent the linen from unravelling while you lay in bed.

Then, you have to spend a few minutes putting misplaced items such as trash and clean clothing in their designated places.

Spend the rest of the time cleaning the floor using a mop if you use tiles or vinyl flooring or vacuum if you have a carpeted bedroom.

On the following day, see to it that you perform a new set of tasks such as:

  • Using a feather duster or a microfibre, go through the surface of each furnishing. If you use wood furnishings, don’t forget to spray a bit of polishing solution to keep the surface smooth and scratch-free.
  • Remove mites, dust and other types of potentially harmful allergens on the mattresses and pillows using a vacuum cleaner.
  • Make sure to wipe the ceiling and walls every week. Otherwise, these dust and other small particles sitting on the surfaces can trigger various respiratory health problems such as asthma and allergic rhinitis.

Do each task alternately each week so you don’t need to spend long hours cleaning the area.

Squeaky clean dining room and kitchen ❨15 minutes)

As a mom, you spend long hours in the kitchen and dining area. These two areas tend to get super messy most especially when you have a lot of kids in the household.

Dealing with spills, stains and other kinds of mishaps as quickly as possible is paramount to simplifying your cleaning routine in these two areas of the house.

Instead of waiting for a few hours before attending to spills, food splatter and whatnot, see to it that you clean them up quickly. Otherwise, the stain will make a lasting mark on the flooring, walls or kitchen furnishing surfaces. Also, try to clean up right after you prepare meals or feed the kids.

Lastly, discard biodegradable wastes such as leftovers and vegetable peels so you don’t have to deal with foul odours in the kitchen and dining room.

Don’t forget your outdoor living space ❨10 to 15 minutes)

The outdoor living area is often the most neglected part of the house. It’s perfectly understandable if you’re also among the many moms out there who don’t have time to spare to clean and maintain their outdoor spaces.

Start the change by spending around 10 to 15 minutes every day on simple tasks such as cleaning and maintaining rattan chairs and tables, removing dried leaves on the lawn, watering the plants, fixing damaged fences, and trimming the grass.

If you’re growing a garden or a living wall, you have to spend a few minutes tending to the plants so they look evergreen all year round. Read how to use fertiliser so you don’t end up putting too much or using the wrong nutrient pack.

Spend a little time on your bathroom ❨15 minutes)

Failing to maintain the cleanliness in your bathroom will result in hard to remove stains and costly water damages. Instead of dealing with irreversible damages, it’s way better to spend 15 minutes of your day performing simples tasks such as:

  • Keep the bathroom dry to minimise the growth of mould and mildew. In case you spot any colour changes on the walls or bathroom tiles, apply a coating of chlorine solution and scrub it until it’s original colour is restored.
  • Make sure that the tub is completely drained before you leave the house. If you notice scum on the tub, wash it with a baking soda mixture or liquid soap.
  • Throw away empty bottles or packets of soap and shampoo. If possible, use refillable bottles instead of purchasing items packed in single-use plastic containers.
  • After putting makeup on, tidy up the area. Make sure the vanity area of the bathroom is free from spilt foundation, mascara, liquid lippies or other cosmetic products.
  • Keep the bathroom glass ultra clean by wiping it with a damp microfibre, squegee or newspaper.

If you stick to the routine we provided above, you don’t have to spend more than 120 minutes cleaning the entire house. You can do the tasks on your own or enlist the help of your hubby or kiddos. With our cleaning guide, you will definitely have more time to pursue your hobbies or perhaps perform other essential household chores such as meal prepping.  Happy home cleaning!
